Apprenticeships and End Point Assessments (EPA)

We’re at the cutting edge when it comes to apprenticeships, from advice and expertise to our end-point assessment (EPA) solutions. At Community First Academy Trust, we are committed to helping schools recruit, train and retain the best graduates as home-grown teachers and are proud to be Wigan’s largest SCITT.

We are delighted to announce that we are now offering primary (3-7 and 5-11) and secondary (11-16) Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships and are one of only two providers in the North West and just a handful across the country that is listed as both a registered Apprenticeship Provider and End Point Assessment (EPA) Organisation.

Eligible employers (with a pay bill of over £3 million) can now use their Apprenticeship Levy to access up to £9,000 to train existing employees, including unqualified teachers or teaching assistants, to gain qualified teacher status.

Notably this route supports schools, academies and school trusts with succession planning and continuous development plans that benefit local education and most importantly children.

Our offer:

Our apprenticeships offer a nationally recognised qualification as well as offering valuable work experience.

All our apprenticeships are delivered by highly experienced practitioners and trainers from the education sector.

Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships

Similar to School Direct (salaried) programmes, Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships are a new, nationally-recognised, work-based route into teaching that offers an excellent alternative to a traditional full-time university course, providing a postgraduate-level qualification, no tuition fees, and the opportunity to earn while you learn.

All Postgraduate Teaching Apprentices, will be employed by a school while learning on the job, this could be a school they are already working at, or have an existing relationship with.

The centre-based training will be based in Wigan and during the apprenticeship programme, the apprentice will successfully complete our well-established Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme, leading to the recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (typically at the end of term three), followed by an End Point Assessment (typically at the beginning of term four.)

The weekly centre-based training will be based in Wigan or for groups of 5 or more, training sessions could take place in bespoke training rooms at a school within other neighbouring local authority geographic areas.

Early Years Educator Apprenticeships

Early Years Educator and childcare is at the heart of what we deliver, our Early Years Educator training is delivered in conjunction with Wigan Council and is tailored to the apprentices own individual circumstances.

Early Years Educators, and other job roles such as nursery nurse and childminders, are highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, preschools, reception classes and as childminders.

End-Point Assessment Organisation

In April 2019, Community First Academy Trust was accepted onto the register of End-Point Assessment (EPA) Organisations for Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships.

Community First Academy Trust's EPA service is independent to our provision of apprenticeship training. To ensure consistency and impartiality the EPA cannot be carried out by the training provider delivering the apprenticeship.

Employers have the option to secure our services to conduct the end point assessment of an apprentice (not trained by Kingsbridge SCITT) once they have achieved QTS, during the fourth term of their apprenticeship.
